Antiwar Sites

I think a big reason we don't see these sites in the mainstream is because some of their opinions could be considered controversial and non-patriotic. It's sad to say but I think war is viewed as the only option in a lot of cases. However, with time, not only as a nation, but as a species, I think many people have come to disapprove of war and all the horrors it brings with it. Unfortunately, it seems we have had to experience many wars to actually realize how bad it is. In today's age we have access to news from all over the world and are always up-to-date on current political and global issues. We've become much more aware of these problems when compared to something like the holocaust, where people didn't even know what was really going on before it had already been happening for a long time. Although we have access to all the news in the world, the majority of us are still mainly receiving it from only a few prominent sources. One reason we aren't seeing these antiwar sites as much is simply due to the fact that they are independent companies. They don't have the funding of major corporations so it is hard to get their platform on the radar like Fox and CNN. On the top of antiwar.com they even have a place for donations so it is clear that they need all they help they can get to survive. As I said before, I think that since the opinions and articles being written on these websites could be considered unpatriotic, the government may be doing what they can to suppress these websites and their message. For the most part, the government as a whole is in favor of war since they are the ones perpetrating it. We have the most powerful and expensive army in the world so it is something that is clearly valued by our government. Websites like antiwar.com and theamericanconservative.com are going against war and therefore taking away support from our robust military. I am just speculating, but I assume that the government is doing what they can to keep these websites from becoming popular. The government already regulates the internet more than it should, doing things like controlling our results on search engines and promoting government related and government approved companies through things like advertisements. At the end of the day, the biggest thing is that they don't want to incriminate themselves. War is a double-edged sword and the United States is far from innocent when it comes to the role we've played in the different wars. It has happened more than a few times now where antiwar journalists have leaked massive amounts of confidential information about the US government and military. Videos of the US bombing villages or mercilessly killing civilians is something that has been put in the mainstream news in the past. Now the US is doing whatever they can to minimize the number of people who become aware of these problems.
